Dr. Donald Dennis is an ENT in Atlanta. He is a mold literate surgeon that performs endoscopic debridement of sinus fungal biofilms with cyclone irrigation and antifungal therapy. He is a proponent of using intranasal antifungal applications which we at Iron DPC are pioneering with intranasal cyclodextrin and itraconazole and more.
Chronic sinusitis is one of the top 3 complaints that came into the urgent care when I worked there for years. From my conventional training we were all taught that these are not bacterial infections. While this is true, patients will always come in and swear that an antibiotic like azithromycin or doxycycline helps them for their yearly "sinus infection". After studying these drugs and repurposing them in the COVID-19 pandemic I learned that they have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. So most likely the benefit of these drugs is not necessarily antibacterial in these cases. So why does the sinusitis appear seasonally or recurrent and chronic? Yes, allergies can play a role. But what Dr. Donald Dennis has found is fungal biofilm related to the mold and mycotoxins phenomena.
